Camp Atterbury located near Edinburgh, Indiana is the first of a two part segment. For this week we focused on the Veteran’s Commemorative ceremony and Community Day.

Before we went over to explore the happenings for Community Day, we wanted to see the Veteran’s  Commemorative Ceremony and pay our respects to all the troops who trained through at Camp Atterbury.  I should mention that soldiers have been training there since just before America’s involvement in World War II. Since then Camp Atterbury has trained soldiers from different military factions for combat over seas.  Many were there for the ceremony. Families, those currently serving and of course the veterans. It was wonderful to see  so many people come together to show their respect for our troops and this gave me great pride as an American.

After the Ceremony the crew traveled over to another section of the camp to experience Community Day were we saw many families enjoying the museum, exploring the camp, looking at vehicles that have been used in missions as recently as Operation Dessert Storm, and having fun with the recreational activities. We met with Captian Cates for an interview for INtheloop.  She was in charge of everything that was happening for this event,  and was excellent in providing us more information about the site.  She talked to us about why Community Day was important to Camp Atterbury and all that the families could do while there are visiting.  She then talks about how many soldiers come through there and explains about the realistic training they do there. Not only can they further their training, but if someone wishes to specialize in something they can certainly do that. When the interview was over it left me in awe that such an amazing training facility is located right here in Indiana.

In all I had a great time visiting Camp Atterbury and was surprised as to how much I had learned about what they do there. I left there with great pride knowing that such an amazing military training facility can be located right here in our state.
